Spotted Lantern Fly

Have you heard about the Spotted Lanternfly? If you live in our area, you might have already seen them on your property. Recently, the New Leader published a news article about this invasive insect on October 24, 2025. As is often the case with news reports, the story did not bring good tidings—especially when it comes to the Spotted Lanternfly.

The Lanternfly is an invasive insect and may already be in your backyard! Check your trees and plants.

They are invasive and harm plants by sucking their sap, which weakens them and can kill them. They also excrete a sugary substance called "honeydew," which promotes the growth of black sooty mold and attracts other pests like ants and wasps, further damaging plants and creating a nuisance.

This link below has helpful information on how to manage this nuisance. Please take the time to read through it. You’ll be glad you did! Then check your property.
