General Information
-
Connected to one another by nature, their characteristics are very different leading to unique challenges in water quality management.
-
Standing at the boat ramp on Lake Quaboag “North Pond”, it is connected to Lake Quacumquasit “South Pond,” at a bridge 1.6 miles South of this ramp. Attached to the bridge is a FLOW BARRIER.
-
The current rainfall (about 2.35") on top of a recent rain (about the same) is certainly going to increase our water level immensely. Be advised to secure beach furniture/toys and secure docks appropriately. Considering the gate has been closed and holding back more than a foot of water, the Quaboag is already breaching (overtopping the gate), North Pond water level will likely rise another foot with the next day and half, and South Pond will slowly rise about 1.5 feet over current levels over the next four days.
The good news is that after about 5+ days, the lakes will equilibrate, and start dropping about 0.3 ft/day with fast North flow at the gate. If there is no further significant rain at that time, the gate will be opened to create a continued fast drop in South Pond causing minimal influence on the level of North Pond.

The MYTH, The LEGEND
Documentation from such a long time ago is hard to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt, but what follows seems to be the most feasible explanation as to how NorPondapuss came to be in North Pond -
Living on our beautiful Lakes is not just for summer fun. The winter and our frozen lakes are an added bonus. Enjoy it safely! Whether you are fishing, snow shoeing, cross country skiing or just hiking, it’s another way to enjoy “lake life”.em description

Operated by QQLA volunteers in compliance with the OOC issued to the Town of East Brookfield, the Flow Barrier is an essential element to managing water quality.
-
Many factors contribute to algae growth. Learn more about what causes blooms to occur, what can be done to prevent them and how to monitor water conditions.
-
Funded by QQLA and regulated by the three towns’ Conservation Commissions, weed treatment is a key focus of water quality management.
-
This is a detailed report prepared for the MassDEP that discusses the management of the water resources of Quaboag and Quacumquasit Lakes.
-
An historic contributor of point load water nutrients, the Spencer Wastewater Treatment Plant has significantly improved its water quality thanks in part to the efforts of the QQLA.
