Are We in A Drought?

Questions and answers on drought conditions throughout the US and specifically for your local area (Worcester County) are clearly captured by simply googling "drought monitor" or visiting the link below. The website is sponsored by the USDA, and contains a wealth of information sourced from a number of federal agencies. Considering it's a government website, it is well organized and easy to navigate. Nice map-based visuals, static or dynamic, over selected periods of time.

You will see that severe drought grips a number of areas in the US. While Worcester County was actually in a moderate drought over the winter months (lots of snow, but very little water-equivalent powder), we have graduated to a moderately dry condition only requiring a little water on the garden.

The long-term NOAA forecast predicts very warm and moderately dry conditions for the Northeast, all the way into next winter.  Prepare for a "nice" summer with burned out lawns, but low water levels (nice beaches).
