Lunar Eclipse
Key Details for the March 3, 2026, Lunar Eclipse:
Visibility: Best viewed from the Americas (specifically the western U.S. and Canada) and the Pacific region, but the ‘before sunrise’ experience here in central Mass might be great if there is no or minimal cloud cover.
Times (Approximate):
*Penumbral Eclipse Begins: ~3:43 a.m. EST
*Total Eclipse Begins (Totality): 6:04 a.m. EST
→ Note: sunrise is 6:18 a.m.
*Maximum Eclipse (Peak): 6:33 a.m. EST
*Total Eclipse Ends: 7:03 a.m. EST
What to expect: The moon will turn a reddish hue due to Earth's shadow, often called a "Blood Moon". The early part of the eclipse will show the earth’s shadow crossing the face of the moon.
Significance: This is the first lunar eclipse of 2026 and the last total lunar eclipse visible anywhere on Earth until New Year's Eve 2028.
Viewing Tips: No special equipment is required – the naked eye is fine. Note that binoculars will enhance the experience.
Spiritual Significance: (Our favorite astrologer has this comment – belief is optional):
A total lunar eclipse with the moon in Virgo — a blood moon dripping with cosmic significance — is coming to shake the perfectionism right out of your bones! If you've been white-knuckling control, over-thinking every decision, or criticizing yourself into paralysis, this eclipse is your intervention. Make the best of it – choose freedom.
